How To Edit ppsx Files

Ever had to turn a ppsx file into a pptx or mp4 file? A ppsx file extension means a PowerPoint Show file or a Microsoft PowerPoint SlideShow file.

I had to prepare a presentation with specific requirements and then present the file as a ppsx file.

After hours of work, I finally saved the file as a .ppsx file and submitted it only to be told I needed to change the file into an mp4 file.

I tried opening the slideshow file only to find out that the file couldn’t be edited. It was essentially a slideshow the moment it opens with no option to edit it.

I couldn’t redo the whole file as recording new videos for each slide was going to be another huge assignment.

This meant I had to search online for information on how to edit a .ppsx file or convert it into a .pptx file.

I found various platforms where I could convert such a file but realized most had a relatively low file size limit.

After checking out multiple of these platforms, I came across one that allowed me to upload my 470MB ppsx file for conversion.

Once this process was done, I proceeded to download the file and open it only to realize the video files included in each slide couldn’t be played.

I spent hours trying tried various other options and after hours of research and trial and error, I finally found a solution.

You might ask, why didn’t I just change the file extension. Well, a simple solution is always my favorite so I did, but unfortunately, it just didn’t work.

I wrote this article to provide some insight into how to easily solve this problem.

Most people save files in ppsx formats to make it easier for recipients to view their presentations and also to avoid content editing.

This means that the files open directly as a slideshow instead of a PowerPoint file and the file cannot be edited but simply use all the slideshow functionalities of your application of choice.
